Flexible stone on a private house
130 m² of facade that travelled in a van
The material left the factory in boxes. 130 m² of flexible stone weighs about 520 kilograms — half a tonne, an ordinary delivery, with no stone pallets, no crane at unloading and no chipped corners on the way. In natural stone the same facade would have meant 2.6 to 4.5 tonnes and a lorry of its own.
On site, the house has no back. The garden runs all the way round, and along the narrow side a path one metre wide is all there is between the wall and the fence — the wall is seen from a hand's distance there, basement windows included. It was clad like the main elevation: the same bond, the same open joint, the same returned reveals.
The climate asks for the rest: over 200 freeze-thaw cycles and UV-stable pigments, so the beige still reads the same after ten winters.
